Goodies

Well I've been told I should post my experience at Scrappy Chic and the goodies I got. Thanks honey! We stopped at Scrappy Chic in Livonia MI on our way to Karmanos Cancer Center on Thursday. When I walked in I was greeted and then so were the guys, I think the clerk was surprised to see two men with me! Mitch joined us for the trip. I looked around a bit and she asked me if I was looking for something in particular and I said yes, the Graphic 45 paper. So she showed me where it was and I picked up what I thought I could use. I'm hoping to use it for some vintage photos. So family please scan and send some vintage photos to me. smiles. I also have been looking on sb.com to see what other people are using their Graphic 45 paper for and see that some are using it for current photos too. Scrappy Chic is just full of goodies and it took awhile to pick out what I wanted. I had some coupons so I knew for sure a couple of things I wanted to pick up. I saw a Crafty Secrets stamp set I wanted. I know only the pkg is shown in the photo because I'm already trying to create something with it and I want it to be a surprise. I also like Scrappy Chic because they carry paper lines that you don't see to often in scrapbook stores or at least not the ones I've been to. In Toledo and just over the border into MI all the scrapbook stores have closed. There are only big box stores like: Michael's, Hobby Lobby and JoAnn fabrics. There is a woman who has a store in her basement that I go to once in awhile, but she is only open once a week and although she has quite a bit of goodies she doesn't have the room for a lot of different stuff. Ok back to the goodies, I also got some mini bingo cards from Jenni Bowlin, some Cosmo Cricket Girl Friday and a CC spinner card. I think it's cute because you can use it for your layout theme/journaling. I also picked up two shaped papers from Collage Press. My biggest purchase that doe was the Scor-Pal. I've been wanting one for awhile, but didn't really want to order it and pay shipping. So just before check out I picked it up and decided to use one of my coupons for that. I think my cards will look a bit more professional with it. My dear friend Carolyn says I will use it a lot. She said at first she didn't remember to use hers, but once she started she said she uses it all the time now. If you stop by her blog PMS, Etc. you will see the cute backpack she created with her Scor_Pal. So here are the goodies:

I'm sure we'll stop at Scrappy Chic every so often as Tim has committed to going to Karmanos for the drug trials. They offer 60 different drug trials, way more than the two offered at Cleveland Clinic. Karmanos Cancer Center is at Wayne State University in Detroit MI. While we were there I told Mitch that Wayne State does offer a theater program. He said he wouldn't mind living in Detroit. We also noticed that the planetarium is right there and they have a Star Trek exhibit until September of this year, so I'm sure we'll go there for a visit too. We took the camera along, however the batteries decided to die before I could take my first photo! I looked before we left to see if we had batteries to take along, but couldn't find any. However, as you know the photo above was taken with a camera...I found some batteries and even set the settings on the camera this time. It's Tim's camera so I'm always a bit wary of settings, etc. I don't want to break or harm anything!

Well that's it, I just want to say I really enjoyed my visit at Scrappy Chic. I think the gal was very friendly and helpful. Hope you have a wonderful Saturday! It's gloomy and wet around here. The wind looks like it's picking up too. Oh well I guess it's a good day to play with my goodies! :D

Slacker @ blogging

Sorry my fellow BBC er's and anyone else who stops by to read this silly blog of mine. I've been a little preoccupied with getting ready to go to family reunion and get prize items done. I will post a few more items in this blog. It's been what has been keeping me busy besides sending out resumes and going on the occasional interview. This past week has been pretty sleepless as I continue to make lists of what needs to be done in my head. So I get up and get on the computer and get ideas of what to create. I covered a pretzel container (similar to a paint can) and am filling it with goodies for a boy. I can think of all kinds of things to fill one for a girl...like notecards and such. But a boy is a bit harder. I did come up with a matchbook style mini scrapbook, a calendar, a lip balm card and I covered a mini comp book. I used the Cogsmo line from Cosmo Cricket. I think it's pretty cute and boy-friendly. I found some theater size candy that I want to cover and include in this container. Here is a photo of it, so what do you think? I want to cover the lid and maybe put some kind of ribbon handle on it. Or maybe I'll just cover it.

Yesterday I spoke to Tim's sister who happens to be a nurse. She wanted to talk to Tim and he was napping. I didn't want to get him up just yet. So we talked a bit and she said somethings that I couldn't believe. Do people just not think?
She said that Tim needed to stay on Chemo. Uh Duh, he started getting Chemo again today. She said it would just kill Mom. Okay so what about the rest of us? I went on to say that some people for whatever reason are not able to still do chemo and have survived for many years. She said she didn't want to take that chance. She says she doesn't want to lose her baby brother. I also mentioned that the Chemo Oncologist wasn't very computer literate and had never shown us the PET scans until last week. He only went by what was on the report. This time we were going to ask to see the scans. Well without us asking he showed us the scans on the computer. He said that the report said the lesions had grown and when he looked at the scan and the scale he said they were only 1 cm not 2.5- 4 cm of the report. So I mentioned this to her and said that was a pretty significant discrepancy. She said I shouldn't hold it against the dr. that he isn't very computer literate. I said when there is a discrepancy like that that's too big of a discrepancy for me. I said before he just went by whatever was on the report so how are we to know who is correct? If you're going to show a patient something like this, then you need to know what you're talking about. Tim is lucky to have a computer literate radiology oncologist. He showed us the first PET scan on a 24" monitor and showed us a couple of spots on his lungs that he wasn't concerned about. On the 29th Tim sees this Dr. and hopefully we'll know more. I mentioned this to his sister as well. Our conversation ended with me saying I'm sure Tim will stay on chemo as long as he has a job and health insurance. She ended with saying even Chemotherapy is a crap shoot. Okay, so why did she change her attitude at the end by saying it was a crap shoot? Geez.

I woke up Tim after taking the pictures of the items I made. I was in the middle of that when his sister called. I told him the gist of the conversation and he said it sounded like she was on her high horse again. I said I told her you're doing fine. Matter-of-fact that with dealing with cancer, the house we live in, me being jobless and 3 kids that drive us nuts at times, we are actually doing pretty good.

Tim tried calling his sister after we ate supper. He couldn't get a hold of her. So he thought maybe she had the night shift at work. She finally called while I was talking long distance to a friend of mine. I switched over and told her Tim would
call her back. When Tim and his sister finally did talk she said to him Don't let Carmen talk you out of Chemo. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!! I said not only is that stupid to say that I would even try to talk you out of getting Chemo, but also says that she doesn't think Tim can think for himself. That he can be talked into or out of things.

Onto happier things here are a few photos of the stationery boxes that I have been working on. I did not do them just like the instructions. I used a mini comp book for an address book.
I made a notepad for the area you are supposed to put gift tags and then of course four notecards are included. I may include a pen on the front flap. Here is where I got the instructions, if you'd like to make one for yourself: stationery box

Oh and I also made my first Bra/Panties card. My brother's birthday is coming up on the 25th, so I thought I'd make him this card. My brother has tattoos so his card had to have tattoos also. I can see making these and using the glitter, brightly colored rubons for tattoos also. I bought more flesh colored paper and some cinnamon stick colored paper to make some more of these fun cards.

25 of my Favorites

Sorry I haven’t been a very good blogger lately. With Tim starting chemo again tomorrow I’ve been feeling low, here I am without a job and he’s going for chemo and working. It’s not for lack of trying I send out resumes weekly, but have only had two interviews. It’s just not fair, but then again life isn’t usually fair, at least that’s what I tell Noah. LOL

I didn’t make the cut for Cosmo Cricket but at least I gave it a try. They seem like a really great company and are sending out gift certificates for all those who applied. I was a bit surprised that none of them names were familiar to me. I thought someone from here would be selected. There are so many talented scrappers out there.

Well onto my favorite things….

I have decided to enter the Cosmo Cricket DT call. I love Cosmo Cricket paper and embellishments and have several layouts to prove it. Smile. I believe these layouts will also qualify for the BBC prompt of posting something of red, yellow or orange.
